The Cherokee Immersion School began as a language preservation program in 2001. The immersion school is an elementary school that instructs students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade using the Cherokee language. The school also has a bridge program for seventh- and eighth-grade students going to public schools or Sequoyah High School.

To be eligible for enrollment, students must be citizens of a federally recognized tribe. Applicants must complete an interview and application packet. Parents must apply in person. Due to limited class size, applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

Applications must be complete and copies of the following documents must be attached: tribal citizenship card from a federally recognized tribe, income verification, immunization record, Social Security card, and birth certificate. If a child has been identified as having special needs, other information may be requested.
